Geocache Description:

Come to a park with a view from 10:30am to 2pm during your Cache Machine tour for some burgers, dogs, chips, cookies and water. All for a small donation while you have a nice view of Bateman's Island in a small park.

Please log how many may attend so we buy enough food.

Welcome to Bateman Island overlook park.

This is the furthest up river the Lewis and Clark expedition traveled to Bateman Island. It is 1 mile long and .5 miles wide.

Bateman Island hosted wheat growth in the 1800's, raising cows in the early 1900's, then from 1941-1952 the Batemans raised turkeys on it.

In the 50's the Corps of Engineers bought the island before filling up the lake around it by damming up the river. In 1959 the island was offically named Bateman Island and in 1980 it was listed on the Washington State Historical record.

Little maintenance is carried out on it and there is an issue with the causeway making water warmer on one side vs the other because of lack of flow between each side, there is none. But with federal dollars not dedicated toward the Corps for any land management all work done on the island is by donation under the Corps strict orders. In other words, it is a damn mess! LOL
