Geocache Description:

St John the Baptist Church, Shedfield
The church was consecrated on 20th March 1880 and is a Grade II listed building, built with coursed stonework externally and detailed brickwork internally. The church design is in a Gothic style with a nave, north and south aisles and a decorative and ornate chancel. Coloured bricks are used abundantly and the dressed Bath stone gives a warm and pleasing effect.

A tower at the west end has a clock, flag mast and a set of eight bells. It has a seating capacity of 350 and has on certain occasions accommodated up to 500 people.

The Study Centre was built in 2003, behind the main church building, and is in almost daily use for church-related and other approved activities.

The foundation stone of St John the Baptist Church can still be seen today under the east window along with several coins of the day which rest nearby.

The cache will be found at N 50 M (F-H).EAM W00 (K-L) JG.CBD

The path to the cache can be found at the rear of the churchyard - follow the footpath sign on the fence surrounding the old tower the path continues beyond the old cars and vans but is difficult to see. This interesting building is remaining from the original Shedfield church, while here make sure you take the opportunity to gather the information for GC6C22V The Old Tower before you leave the grounds.
