Madame RécamierSituée au bout de l’impasse Rue Récamier, entre deux immeubles haussmaniens, le square Récamier fut bâti sur une place où se trouvait autrefois le couvent de l'Abbaye-aux-Bois où Madame Récamier (importante salonnière française) s'était retirée pour y terminer ses jours.
Le square Récamier fut rebaptisé au nom de Roger Stéphane par le maire de Paris Bertrand Delanoë le 22 octobre 2008 à l'issue d'un long débat entre la mairie centrale et les riverains.

Roger Stéphane
Roger StéphaneRoger Stéphane (1919-1994), de son vrai nom Roger Worms, est un écrivain et journaliste français, ancien résistant et cofondateur du journal L'Observateur.
Engagé au côté du Parti communiste, c'est aussi un esthète qui admire Stendhal, Proust et T. E. Lawrence. Éclectique dans ses choix, il a consacré des ouvrages aussi bien à Habib Bourguiba (premier président de la Tunisie en 1957) qu'à son vieil ami Georges Simenon (écrivain belge francophone) avant de faire lui-même l'objet de plusieurs biographies.
Homosexuel connu, il a été l'un des premiers militants de la cause gay.

English version: The square
Situated at the end of the blind allay of the Rue Récamier, in between of two haussmanian buildings, the square Récamier was built on the place of the former convent named l'Abbaye-aux-Bois, where Madame Récamier (important society leader) retired herself to let end up her days quietly.
The square Récamier was rebaptised Roger Stéphane by the mayor of Paris Bertand Delanoë on the 22 of october 2008 after long debates between the main mayor's office and the residents.

Habib BourguibaRoger Stéphane (1919-1994), born Roger Worms, is a french authour and journalist, former resistant and cofounder of the journal L'Observateur.
Involved in communist party, Stéphane is also an aesthete who admires Stendhal, Proust and T. E. Lawrence. Ecletic concerning his choices, he dedicated works to Habib Bourguiba (first president of Tunisia in 1957) and to his old friend Georg Simeon (belge and francophone authour) but also to his own life where about he wrote several biographies.
Homosexuel known, he was one of the first militants of the gay occasion.
