Geocache Description:

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).

Cottenham is a village in Cambridgeshire, England. It is close to The Fens. Before the fens were drained in the 19th century Cottenham was on the last contour before the waterlogged marshes, with Ely being the nearest dry land around 12 miles (19 km) to the north-east.

There is also a local legend regarding the Anglican church that is at the end of the village.  The villagers originally wanted to build the church in a more central part of the village.  When the townsmen started the task of building the church at its new location, the stones mysteriously started to be transported back to their original site.  This caused the locals to be afraid and they left the church to be built where originally intended.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
