| Monte Brè |
IT: Le funicolari partono dalla periferia di Lugano e circolano in due sezioni verso il Monte Brè, montagna panoramica sul bacino del lago e sulla città pullulante. Il breve tratto inferiore fino a Ruvigliana è stato inaugurato nel 1908, nel 1912 la funicolare è stata poi ampliata fino al Monte Brè. È ritenuta la montagna più soleggiata della Svizzera, probabilmente per questo qui cresce la rosa di Natale, un fiore raro e protetto che attecchisce altrimenti solo nell’Europa meridionale.
Giunti sulla vetta, bisognerebbe innanzitutto soffermarsi, invogliati da due ristoranti con terrazzo soleggiato. Le discese al Lago o a Lugano, attraversando sempre il paese di Brè, sono in parte piuttosto ripide, come pure il sentiero didattico “Natura e archeologia” che porta a Gandria.
Il paesino romantico di Brè, con i suoi grotti, ha conservato il carattere di un insediamento rurale e si è arricchito man mano di numerose opere d’arte.

EN: Funicular railways run in two sections from the edge of Lugano to Monte Brè, the scenic mountain above the lake basin and the vibrant city. The short lower section to Ruvigliana was opened in 1908, before the railway reached Monte Brè in 1912. It is considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland, which may explain why it is home to the rare and protected Christmas rose, otherwise found only in Southern Europe.
Our advice is stop for a while on the "summit" – where two restaurants with a sun terrace welcome you. Descents down to Lugano or the lake, always via the Brè village, are in part pretty steep, as are the nature and archaeological trail to Gandria.
The romantic little Brè village with its grottos has succeeded in maintaining its original character of country settlement – further embellished by numerous works of art.
