Zverinetsky fort was built before the beginning of the war of 1812. The M.M. Gryshko National Botanic Gardens of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is located today at this place. However, the Citadel and Fort Zverinetsky did not have participated in hostilities.
Fort was used as an ammunition depot. In the summer of 1918 took place a powerful explosion that destroyed the nearby neighborhoods . This is the only strengthening of the Kiev fortress whether almost completely destroyed. It is now preserved only in fragments.

Зверинецкий форт на месте нынешнего Ботанического сада им. Гришко был возведен накануне войны 1812 года. Впрочем, как и Цитадель, Зверинецкий форт в военных действиях участия не принимал.
Это единственное укрепление Киевской крепости, практически полностью разрушенное. Форт использовали как склад боеприпасов. Летом 1918 года здесь прогремел мощнейший взрыв, разрушивший близлежащие кварталы.
