Povinné branné cvičenia na základných školách prežili až dodnes. Konajú sa pod názvom účelové cvičenia na ochranu človeka a prírody. Ich program je určený učebnými osnovami.
Prvý deň sa v triedach konala teoretická príprava s praktickými ukážkami: nácvik a podávanie prvej pomoci, zoznámenie sa z protipožiarnymi opatreniami a ochranou prírody. U nás nemohlo chýbať ani skúšanie plynových masiek. Nácvik nasadzovania masiek sme vždy robili na čas. Mali sme z toho vždy majstrovstvá triedy v rýchlosti ich nasadzovania. Vo vyšších ročníkoch sme sa dostali aj k streľba zo vzduchovky Slávia (presný typ si už nepamätám).
Druhý deň sme v škole počkali na vyhlásenie poplachu. Celá škola sa po vyhlásení poplachu nastúpila na dvore a odtiaľ sme sa vybrali k neďalekému lesu. Na toto miesto vás zavedie moja prvá keška. Už sa tu veľa zmenilo. Vlastne, je to tu už úplne iné, keďže všade naokolo sa rozmohol stavebný boom, čomu sa ale nedá čudovať, pretože je to pekný kút Bratislavy.
Ku keške:
Úvodné súradnice vás zavedú pred bývalú základnú školu (teraz gymnázium), odkiaľ sme na branné chodili my. Dvor pred školou sa často zamyká, ale správne čísla sa dajú zistiť aj spoza plota. Z ulice Česka to ide úplne bez problémov. Z Budyšínskej ulice je to trochu ťažšie, ale tiež to zvládnete.

B: spočítať smreky po ľavej strane od schodiska
C: počet stĺpov, ktoré podopierajú strechu
D: počet schodov pod strechou
E: počet lámp pouličného osvetlenia oproti schodom pred plotom

Tieto súradnice vás zavedú na miesto kam sme chodili na branne zo školy . Peši je to prechádzka asi na ¾ hodinku, ale dá sa tam pohodlne dostať autom. Ihrisko je už vynovené a určite sa tu deti na chvíľku radi zahrajú. Kým sme sem chodili my, bolo tu iba pár lavičiek a a jedno pieskovisko. Pred ihriskom je dopravná značka, od nej treba ísť ešte 66m pod azimutom 239 stupňov.

Nowadays they are known as ‘Exercises to protect your body and the nature around you’ On the first day of this event, children were introduced to theory with some practical props: how to provide first aid, fire prevention and nature protection. This event couldn’t go without trying on gas masks. At my school, this was always turned into a game (Championship as we called it) to put the mask on the fastest. When we were older, we could even have a go at firing from an air gun Slavia (I cannot remember the exact type though). On the second day, after we waited patiently for the fire alarm to come on, the whole school gathered in the front yard. From there, we walked over to a nearby forest. This is where you’ll find my first CACHE. This place has changed a lot since then. It is completely different now due to the development boom; but that is no surprise there as this is a very nice part of Bratislava. CACHE: The co-ordinates will take you to what used to be our Primary School (now a College). The front yard is often locked, but the right numbers can be found even from behind the bars. It is easier to find out the right numbers from Ceska street, you may find it more challenging from Budysinska street but it is also do-able. Count the following: A: number of Birch trees on left hand side of the main steps B: number of Spruce trees on left hand side of the main steps C: number of pillars that support the roof D: number of steps under the roof E: number of lamp posts in between the steps and the fence Now a little bit of Maths: N 48 (D),(D-A-C)(C+E)(D-B-E) E017 (A+B+C+E),(D-A-B)(A+C+E)(D-B) These co-ordinates will take you to the exact place where we used to go with my school. To walk there, it will take you about 45 minutes. But you can get there by car easily. The newly renovated playground will keep the kids entertained for a while. When we used to come over here, there were only a couple of benches to sit on and a sad looking sand pit. Just in front of the playground, you will find a traffic sign.
