Geocache Description:

1000 days of caching - celebrating Roland Kent's Geocaching Streak

6:30 – 8:30 PM

Fuddruckers Sterling Heights

40955 Van Dyke Sterling Heights, MI 48313

I had been researching Geocaching for about 2 weeks, on and off, while on lunch at work, and during the night when insomnia kept me awake. It sounded like a good way to get out of the house. I put an ap on my phone and learned how to use it.

On the evening of Wednesday July 3, 2013, while watching a Tiger Baseball game on TV, I said to Kevin (geocacher Roland Kent), something to the effect of “You remember that episode of Switched at Birth where they were looking for a geocache? Well there is a geocache right here in the neighborhood, over at the fountain” I pulled up the Geocache map and showed Kevin. Now Kevin, being quite a Tiger fan, well I didn’t expect the reaction I got when he “ok, let’s go find it”.

We walked over to the park to take a look see. There were a few people at the fountain and as I had done a little reading I knew stealth would be required. We took a seat on a bench and waited….and waited…..and finally had our chance. The cache was a magnetic nano under the bench. We ventured out a little farther and found a second cache. Kevin grabbed a third on his own that day. We were hooked, especially Kevin and the rest is history.

The next day, Independence Day, Kevin and I found 9 more and Kevin found 3 more on the 5th, a few on the 6th, another couple on the 7th and without thinking about it...he was getting out every day. It soon became a part of his work day, to get out after work to find a cache, while I wondered where the heck he is now! I suppose it really helped relieve his work stress....and so it continued, a month, 2 months, 100 days, 200 days. Consideration was given to stopping at 500 days, but day 501 happened and so did a cache. Will he stop at 1000? I don’t know, only time will tell.

March 28, 2016 will mark 1000 consecutive days of caching! Since Kevin has found a cache every day since the first day he started he is also celebrating never having a slump! Geocaching has become part of our lives and has enriched our lives in so many ways, the best of which has been the wonderful friendships we have developed.

What better way to mark that day, than with some of those geo-friends!

So please join us in celebrating Kevin’s 1000 days of caching.
