The church is a Grade II listed building, designed by the architect Ignatius Bonomi and built in the year 1828. It sits in a prominent position at the top of the village of Winlaton and is surrounded by a grassed area (once the original church graveyard), a small ancient burial area, and a small area of Glebe land which leads to a substantial garden in which stands the rectory.
The church has a number of beautiful stained glass windows, one of which is by the renowned artist William Wailes.
Did you know that Coffee Johnny (aka John Oliver) who is immortalised in the Geordie folk song Blaydon Races is buried in St. Paul's churchyard
