Geocache Description:

The Cache can be found in the claustraphobic settlement of Lane End, which neighbours the infamous West Wycombe, famous for it's Hellfire Caves & Golden Globe, and the village of Fingest which is said to be haunted by a green man.

This was the kind of place we loved as kids. Although to the normal person the area which the cache lies may just come across as woodland, to us it has many more stories to tell. It started off as a mystery. My friend had visited the woods & had come home to tell me all about how he had seen a man who he called 'the hermit' in a shack. The next time he visited the shack had burnt down and this enthrawled us, soon after we visited again & got bad vibes. Lane End had become for us, a place where we would visit insearch of something strange, i'm still not sure what exactly. It sent a shiver down our spines, the constant feeling that we were being watched. Maybe this was just 2 kids being kids your thinking, but you can imagine my horror when I stumbled accross an old photo on a website containing an archive of photos of Lane End, entitled 'The hermit of the woods', maybe we wern't alone all that time, maybe we did have company...

Our visits to this location were enhanced by the daunting shooting tower overlooking the woods. Gunshots could often be heard & they kept us on our toes. The final mystery was the fenced area in the centre, which I now know to be a water compound of some sort. At the time it could have been anything, and certainly something that we wern't supposed to see.

I hope you enjoy searching for this cache, maybe you will come out with some stories of your own. I do hope you can avoid 'the hermit' or whoever else made us feel so unsure all those years ago & that you enjoy every second of nervous hunting while hoping you really are alone. Good luck and happy caching... Dan & Pid.
