Geocache Description:

The "Event Time"will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Interpretive Center.

Check out the more information section below to learn about what is available at the Interpretative Center during the event besides planning the day and socializing.

We will Meet on Saturday, February 13th, 9:30 am at the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Interpretive Center.  At 10:30 we will be snowshoeing from Knickerbocker Lake to Horseshoe Lake. We will drop off vehicles so we don't have to snowshoe all the way back. After we get done snowshoeing, lunch will be back at the interpretive center by the fire pits.

Please bring a dish to share for our pot luck style lunch. The Interpretive Center will allow crock pots to be plugged in at the kitchen. I'm guessing pot luck time will be around 2:00 pm. Whatever time we get back from our snowshoeing adventure. You might also want to bring a quick snack to have on our snowshoeing trip.

No cancellations. This event will be a go no matter the weather. The great thing about snowshoeing is how nice and toasty you stay.  Here is how last year went http://coord.info/GC5FZKD

Despite 40 mph wind gusts and 30 below windchills this tough group still made it 3 miles. Others less and maybe some more but the group I went with made it 3 miles. After this year seeing how many ventured out into the frigid temps I will never worry about the cold again and just keep everything running as planned.

Thank you to Wis Wild Weasel and North Knights for placing so many caches in the area for us to find. Special thanks also to Brenda and the rest of the employees at the Interpretive Center for putting up with us each year. :)

More Information about the area:

Things to do in the interpretive center, hold a snake, pet a turtle, dig for fossils, borrow snowshoes, watch a nature video, do a scavenger hunt, feed the fish a bug, discover how ice formed the Chippewa Moraine, try the voyageurs' paddle race or play voyageurs' tug-of-war

The Chippewa Moraine segment of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve includes 23 miles of well-marked trails. The trails are for foot travel only, and motorized vehicles, horses, or mountain bikes are not allowed in the Chippewa Moraine.

The most popular trails at Chippewa Moraine are the three, self-guided trails that begin at the interpretive center. Hike or snowshoe the trails to see glacial kettle lakes, hummocks, ice-walled lake plains and wildlife.

Mammoth Nature trail (0.75-mile loop) Dry Lake trail (1.8-mile loop) Circle trail (4.5-mile loop)

And of course the Ice Age Trail runs 30 feet from the parking lot.
