About MAX SW Waterfront Station / MAX Streetcar Junction
I already have a cache about the new Bridge, but being a railfan I really like the complex rail junction on the westside of the bridge (I also have a cache near the eastside junction).
The Portland Streetcar came down to South Waterfront first, although not the way it is now. It was a single track line that ran on the former Willamette Shore Trolley/Southern Pacific private Right-of-Way. Later Moody Street was rebuilt and the Streetcar became double-tracked but in Moody Street.
With the new MAX Orange line, it has changed again. MAX now crosses over the Streetcar line in a flat junction to go over Tilikum Crossing. In addition, a branch of the Streetcar curves off of Moody Street to also head across the bridge. The Streetcar NS line still head to the South Waterfront, and Loop A/B diverge here for the bridge.
The cache is not at the actual junction, but about a block away. You can easily take the streetcar or MAX to find this cache.
