Geocache Description:

Jezerske planine - Pozabljene igrače

Na Jezerskem je ravnina redka. Dragocena. Hlev. Zato so ji seveda rekli kar Rakeževi.

Bili so radoživi. In morebiti kakšno našli.

Jezersko mountain pastures - Forgotten toys (translation by Dulsineja)

Flat land is a rare sight at Jezersko. It's precious and people have to make the utmost of it. To grow potatoes and some other vegetable treats. To build a house. And a barn. With kids running around the yard. Small shepherds. They move to mountain pastures during the summer. There is one pasture with nearly every farmhouse. Somewhere high above, on steep terrains under the mountain tops. A meadow cleared of the forest. According to a collection of local stories called "Jezerske štorije", a family named Štern was living at the Rakež area, and therefore they were called "Rakeževi", or people from Rakež. Consequently, the name of the mountain pasture also derives from Rakež. It is well maintained to date. It is situated high above the village of Zgornje Jezersko, on the slopes under the top of Pristovški Storžič. The pasture boasts spectacular views across the valley and beyond.

Decades ago, the Rakež children, who were certainly barefooted, were running cheerfully on the dewy grass. Even today, one of the stories tells us about one of the kids, who made friends with snakes at the Rakež crag. He was feeding bread to them and had a special bond with a very big white snake. Whether this was true or not is hard to say. But certainly, these children were playing and growing up at the mountain pasture. Their toys were whistles, figurines and tiny stones. Maybe some of them are still left lying around, like a remnant of the past times. Whether this is true or not, you will find out only if you take a close look. Even more, you might also find some of the toys.
