Paraíso do Surf
Podia ser uma praia de areia branca e fina e água azul e transparente, mas isso seria demasiado cliché para a maravilhosa praia de Santa Bárbara – também conhecida por Areal de Santa Bárbara ou Areais.
E como cliché é palavra que não rima com o arquipélago dos Açores, tudo nesta praia é diferente e, por isso, incrível.
Este pedacinho de paraíso, de areias vulcânicas e água límpida, tem quase um quilómetro de extensão, o que lhe dá o prémio de uma das maiores da região.
Santa Bárbara tem ganho reputação pelas várias provas internacionais de surf que recebe anualmente: uma etapa do ASP World Tour, o SATA Airlines Azores Pro e uma etapa do Pro Junior Europeu.
Estas competições internacionais e nacionais (muito procuradas pelos melhores atletas do mundo, já que permitem obter uma elevada quantidade de pontos etambém devido às ondas potentes e tubulares que junto à costa rebentam)têm contado com a presença dos melhores surfistas do mundo tais como os norte-americanos Kolohe Andino e Brett Simpson, os brasileiros Jadson André, Ítalo Ferreira ou Wiggolly Dantas, os havaianos Fred Patacchia e Dusty
Payne, os australianos Adam Melling e Adrian Buchan, o neo-zelandês Ricardo Christie ou o tahitiano Michel Bourez, entre muitos outros.
Também já surfaram nas ondas deste majestoso mar algumas lendas do surf, como o havaiano Sunny Garcia, campeão do mundo em 2000, ou o brasileiro Neco Padaratz. O Areal de Santa Bárbara também já foi palco para um documentário sobre o famoso surfista Garret McNamara.
Sozinho ou acompanhado, com um grupo grande ou só com outra pessoa, quando entrar no mar do Areal, não se esqueça que este é um mar de campeões!!
Surf Paradise
It could be a beach of fine white sand and clear blue water, but that would be too cliché for the wonderful beach of Santa Barbara - also known as Areal Santa Barbara or Areais.
And how cliché is a word that does not rhyme with the Azores, all this beach is different and so amazing.
This little piece of paradise, volcanic and clear water sand has almost a kilometer long, which gives it the prize for one of the largest in the region.
Santa Barbara has won reputation for several international surf competitions that annually receives: a stage of the ASP World Tour, the SATA Airlines Azores Pro and a stage of the European Pro Junior.
These national and international competitions (much sought after by the best athletes in the world, as they allow to obtain a high amount of points and also due to the powerful and tubular waves with the burst coast) have relied on the presence of the best surfers in the world such as the American Kolohe Andino and Brett Simpson, Brazilian Jadson André, Italo Ferreira or Wiggolly Dantas, Hawaiian Fred Patacchia and Dusty Payne, Australian Adam Melling and Adrian Buchan, the New Zealander Richard Christie or Tahitian Michel Bourez, among many others.
This majestic sea have already been surfed by some surfing legends like the Hawaiian Sunny Garcia, world champion in 2000, or the Brazilian Neco Padaratz. The Santa Bárbara Areal has also played host to a documentary on the famous surfer Garrett McNamara.
Alone or together, with a large group or just with another person, when entering the sea Areal, do not forget that this is a sea of champions !!
