To find this cache
you'll have to visit a department store, located near the Louvre.
In one of the buildings of this store's complex you can take the
elevator to the 9th floor and then walk to the roof top from there
(11th floor). The view from the top is 360° and includes a very
clear view of several major tourist attractions. Around the viewing
area there are ceramic tiles telling you all about the major sites.
This cache was named "Paris Views for Free", but since the summer
of 2002, the views are now sometimes apparently worth an E2
admission charge, although the collection of this fee seems to be
at almost random times according to cache visitors!
To the virtual cache: On the rooftop there is a yellow "Galaxy"
viewing telescope that costs E1 or E2 to activate. The question for
this geocache is what direction (in degrees) does the telescope
face? Please don't post the answer here, even if encrypted --
e-mail it to me. Note that you do not need to activate the
telescope, use your GPS, compass, or any other instrument to answer
the question (decrypt the hint if you are having problems).
Cache update: As of June 2003, it seems that the store has
sealed off the stairway to the cache location. As of early 2004
this has been confirmed as a perminent closure, so the original
cache location is no longer available. Therefore to score a find
for this cache, visit the business located one floor below the
original cache location (on the 10th floor) and take a picture of
yourself, your GPS, and either the view from the terrace from this
business OR the business' sign to prove that you were here. The
question proposed in the original cache was the direction of the
telescope, which was 205 degrees.
