If you haven't heard, there is a new souvenir for the New Year. So, Freakishkittie and Kritterly decided to do a travel bug race to kick-off the New Year and new souvenir with a new event-type for the Coachella Valley Geocachers group and anyone that will be visiting!
- WHEN: Friday, January 1st, 2016
- WHERE: Red Robin La Quinta (semi-private room, no purchase necessary to attend)
- TIME: 2:00PM PST to 4:00PM PST
- BRING: Your Travel Bugs! (2 TB per geocacher may participate)
- EXTRA: There will be a small *FREE* raffle for attending. Hint: You'll get an extra ticket if you come in/with racing apparel/gear.
At the event, race ID tags will be distributed, and you may attach them to your traveler. The race hostesses (and probably others) would like to take pics of all the bugs that will be racing for First Place! All bugs will be registered with Freakishkittie, to help as reference during the year.
Rules and other info:
- You may use an already activated travel bug with miles on it, but you need to have it in your possession and at the event. Your previous miles will not be counted in the race.
- Otherwise, bring a new bug with no miles on it to participate.
- Once the event has commenced, your TB can be placed in any Geocache in the Coachella Valley that you like.
- Each mile your bug gets equals one point
- Each photo uploaded for your TB will get 10 points (only one pic per handler)
- Your bug will only get miles for the FIRST log by each handler. IE: If someone has your bug and dips it in several caches, it will only get the miles for the FIRST log it was dipped in. This encourages cachers to move along and actually drop the bug as fast as possible rather than hanging on to it. Make sure you note that in your TB's unique page.
The race standings will be kept track of on tb-run.com. You need to register your TB on that website to track it and your miles. The race is private (only for people attending the event) so there is a password for the race. The password will be given out at the event. Fret not, if you cannot attend the event but are in the Coachella Valley at race start, the password will be given to you in private message on geocaching.com so you can register your TB in the race. You must message Freakishkittie and your travel bug MUST start by being placed in a cache in the Coachella Valley. Further details, or any questions you might have, will be discussed at the event (or in private message through geocaching.com.)
You do not have to participate in the race to attend this event. All are welcome to attend!! Remember, you will get the new "Hello 2016" souvenir for attending an event or finding a geocache on January First, and we'd love to help you get that souvenir by hanging out with us! Feel free to bring any TBs to swap (not for the race) and anything you'd like to share with us. This event, as are all the CVG events, is sure to be a blast!
