When leaving the road after number 25 please be aware there could be livestock in the fields that you cross. You more or less go straight across from each stile to the next one. If you haven't found Langstone Cross cache (GC3KXFP) you can continue along the road instead and then follow it to the stile for the footpath to the church. This maybe a good idea if you have a dog with you that is difficult to lift over stiles too!
There are good views of Bowerman's Nose as you cross the fields and walk along the road. Again as you enter the fields following the footpath to the church please be aware of livestock.
At the way marked reference point as you head back to the car through the churchyard is a famous cross (or remains of anyway). History has it that in the 1840's a new rector came to Manaton Parish. The parishioners of Manaton used to carry the coffins three times round the churchyard cross before the burial which he did not approve of. The rector tried to stop them doing this but they wouldn't and one night the cross mysteriously disappeared and it was never found. In the early 20th century the present cross was found supporting a wall nearby and it was thought it was the missing cross but it wasn't as it didn't really fit in the socket stone but it remained in situ anyway.
Hope you enjoyed the meander!
