At the end of the 19th century, there was a shortage of raw material for the maintenance and construction of railroads. In order to meet the demand for wooden sleepers and coal, the company Paulista de Estradas de Ferro (Paulista Railway), created Forest Plantations, among them, the Horto Florestal Edmundo Navarro de Andrade, in the city of Rio Claro, named after Edmundo Navarro de Andrade who, in 1914, brought from Australia 144 species of eucalyptus.
The Horto Florestal, Rio Claro was created in 1909. Andrade had his residence in the garden, doing many researches Center site on the eucalyptus, which filed the results of their work, giving rise to the Eucalyptus Museum in 1916.
From 2002, by State Decree No. 46819 Horto Florestal, Rio Claro was classified in the category of forest, which aims at the sustainable management of resources, research, and public visitation, becoming the FEENA (State forest Edmundo Navarro de Andrade).
Established in 1909, it has 2230 hectares with the largest variety of species of eucalyptus from Brazil, making reference in the cultivation and research of the plant and makes known as "cradle of the eucalyptus". Among other attractions, has the Museum of the eucalyptus, created by the agronomist Edmundo Navarro de Andrade. Originally the forest belonged to the CIA. Paulista de Estradas de Ferro, having been transferred to the FEPASA in the 70, the time of the nationalization of the railways.
From 1998 was administered by the Forestry Institute of the State Secretariat of environment, through the Forestry Institute.
There are beautiful landscapes, a lake where you can see fresh water turtles and alligators, and beautiful Victoria water lily.
In this park there are running / walking trails, as well as mountain biking trails.
Open to visitation daily from 7am to 5:00 pm. There is parking availabe. It is necessary a short walking to the cache.
The cache is micro. It is located close to a picnic area.
