About This Architectural Historical Landmark

#7 Heritage House 415 Faragut St

Heritage House is an Eastlake style cottage.  The Eastlake movement was a nineteenth century architectural movement started by Charles Eastlake (1836-1906).  The Eastlake style is part of the Queen Anne style of Victorian architecture.  Geometric ornaments, spindles, low relief carvings, and incised lines are characteristics giving such homes clean, but artistically complex designs.

This particular home once stood at 815 Marin Street in Vallejo.  Senator Luther Gibson donated the house to the City of Vallejo and the Vallejo Architectural Heritage Foundation (VAHF).  The donation saved it from demolition during redevelopment downtown. VAHF moved the home to its current location in 1985.  The home features oak floors and redwood construction.  VAHF remodeled the home interior in 1985 to divide the space into a meeting room, office, and apartment/living area.

Heritage House now serves as the office for the VAHF, provides a community meeting space in the main room, and then has a caretaker residence in the rear of the home.  The community meeting space is available for use to non-profit organizations based in Vallejo for a fee.  The Vallejo Garden Club (VGC) uses the meeting space every third Saturday for its meetings.  VGC takes care of the rose garden and plants on the west side of the home and is in the process of installing native plants on the north and east sides of the home.
