Starkiller_: It was great to see and learn so much from Ranger Fox. We are grateful he was so generous with his time and knowledge.

For those who are like me and still have much to digest from information overload, the training video has been uploaded to Youtube for you to repeat and review (or view, for those who were unable to make it to the event).

I will see most of you at the next one on December 15!

Geocache Description:

Wherigo is a type of location aware programming that we can use for geocaching. It is one of the less popular geocache types in the game because people find it intimidating and confusing. Ranger Fox, a geocacher from North Carolina USA, is a Groundspeak volunteer and is a (the?) supporting pillar of the wherigo community. In 2012 he created Wherigo\\Kit, an intuitive wizard that makes creating a simple wherigo easy for anyone, letting you click on a map instead of learning commands and programming codes. The Wherigo\\Kit was covered extensively at September's Workshop.

Wherigo.com is the original and primary wherigo site, but soon after it was launched in 2008, Groundspeak stopped updating and promoting the website and the wherigo builder. In 2012, Ranger Fox organized and founded the Wherigo Foundation, a website dedicated to sharing, exploring, and developing wherigo ideas and technologies. The Wherigo Foundation website also lists wherigo cartridges (although wherigo geocaches require the cartridge to reside on wherigo.com). The Foundation website could be considered what Wherigo.com should have become if it wasn’t abandoned.

With the right knowledge and understanding of wherigo programming, almost anything can be accomplished… It all starts with your imagination. What kind of games can you imagine on a landscape? Battleship? Snakes and ladders? Trivia? Or perhaps you want to use Wherigo to tell a story, even showing images to the players. Or you could even use it to provide a tour and information stop by stop where the player decides to go.

Ranger Fox is coming to town as a guest speaker at this workshop.

I will be creating an agenda for us as a starting point for the workshop. If there is a wherigo topic you want to hear more about, send it to me in a private message or post on this page so we can cover it.

This is A GEO Meet & Eat Workshop on FRIDAY November 27. Supper before this event will be held at the FINCH PIZZERIA at the reference coordinates from 5:30 PM to 6:25 PM. The workshop begins at 6:30 PM at SNC (Posted coordinates) and will go until we reach a natural breaking point around 9:00 PM. After this break, Ranger Fox will stay late to help answer more specific questions or do specific tutorials and examples- This is optional, if you still have time and an attention span left!

He will also be at a Meet and Eat in his honour the night before, at Meet and Eat (with) the Fantastic Ranger Fox in Ottawa.
