Geocache Description:

Woodford Methodist Church is one of two remaining chapels in Morwenstow Parish there were up to 1914 two Chapels at Woodford a Methodist and a Wesleyan.

Woodford Methodist Church is one of 2 remaining chapels in the parish of Morwenstow (the other is Shop). The present building was opened on 23rd March 1883. The cost of building the church was £300.

Over 130 years old, the chapel is at the centre of the hamlet of Woodford, which has over 80 dwellings.

The chapel is open daily when visitors can find a quiet haven for prayer and contemplation. Sunday services are shared with Shop chapel members and the buildings used alternate weeks.

Morwenstow parish has no village of that name but has seven hamlets – Crosstown, Woolley, Eastcott, Gooseham, Shop, Woodford, and, until 50 years ago, Coombe. Each of these hamlets, with the exception of Crosstown which is close to the parish church, had its own Methodist Chapel. Bible Christian chapels were at Eastcott, Gooseham and Coombe; Wesleyan Methodist chapels were at Woolley, Shop and Woodford. Up to 1914, there were chapels to both denominations in Woodford.
