The Church
St Mellion Church was built in the reign of Edward 1st and dedicated by Bishop Bronscombe in 1259.
Riding from St Germans he was at the neighbouring village of Pillaton on October 16th and at St Mellion the next day
The patronage of the Church was held by the Coryton family of nearby Pentillie Castle for 400 years
There are some remarkable life-sized kneeling figures commemorating members of the Coryton family dating from the 17th Century
A rather fine Roundhead Helmet, mounted high on the wall, is still preserved near the canopied monuments to William Coryton (died 1651) and his wife Elizabeth (died 1656) which possible indicates the loyalties of this family during the English Civil War.
The walk to the GZ overlooks the St Mellion Golf Course which is famous for holding many International Tournaments and has the "seal of approval" of Jack Nicklaus.
