A Tribute to an Archived Cache
Last year, I found one of the most rewarding caches my son and I
have hiked on to date,
Cumberland Trail Cache. I talked with Hikenit and asked
permission to resurrect this wonderful cache, and he allowed
it.
Parking is different than the last cache, and the hike will be a
shorter, but just as rewarding. Parking coordinates are: N 35°
07.488, W 085° 21.708.
For those that like an added challenge in getting to or from the
cache, there are two ways to the top of the mountain. You can go
travel 127 and go past
this landmark house, or you can travel the shorter, but
much more adventuresome road.
To take that adventure, the road ends at the bottom of the mountain
at N 35° 06.451, W 085° 19.568 and ends at the top of the mountain
at N 35° 09.029, W 085° 19.211. WARNING: This road is NOT for
the feint of heart. This is a trecherous road with hairpin turns.
Do NOT attempt it for the first time at night, and do NOT watch
your GPS on this road. If you are at all hesitant about mountain
driving, stick to 127. You can go either up or down this road
and it will place you near 127 in both instances. Good luck on the
cache and safe driving.
