Geocache Description:

About This Architectural Historical Landmark

The O’Keefe Minahan House is a vernacular style residence.  This home was built by Daniel and Margaret O’Keefe in 1877.  The home was inherited by their only child, Nellie and her husband Daniel Minahan. Daniel Minahan, was the superintendent of the plant of the Vallejo Water Works at Green Valley and was previously the superintendent of streets and public works at Vallejo.

Mr. Minahan was born in Ireland, June 21, 1863, and is a son of Jeremiah and Mary (Sullivan) Minahan, also natives of the Emerald Isle. At eighteen years old, in 1881, he came to San Francisco. He was then employed with a threshing outfit in Solano county and after one season, he operated his own hay press. After three years, he took a position in the plant of the Solano brewery. After two years, Daniel and a partner rented the plant of the old Pioneer brewery and operated the brewery for twelve years.  In 1890, he became the  superintendent of streets and public works at Vallejo until 1906.

Upon his retirement from this public office Mr. Minahan was variously employed until in October, 1918, when he was appointed as the superintendent of the Vallejo Water Works Mr. Minahan married Miss Nellie O'Keefe, who was born in Vallejo, and they had eight children.
