Geocache Description:

Letterbox Hybrid - The cache is not at the posted coordinates, Follow the story below, or the map (not drawn to scale) to the final birdhouse.  They'll lead you to the same place.  We didn't see horses, but quite a bit of evidence of horses.  If you come across a horse, be sure to give it the respect it deserves, moving quietly to the side to let it pass.

Cache placed with permission from PWC parks Please leave the stamp in the cache!

All the little birdies down on Jay Bird Street (Dove's Lane) in Manassas were talking about their upcoming Thanksgiving feast.  There would be all the trimmings.  Berries.  Seeds.  Bread.  And loads of worms.  And this little spot was the perfect place to host dinner, there were all kinds of new worms that most folks don't know about.  Throw in an old-growth forest, some spiders and webs for extra protein, a couple of serene streams, and this place was the bee's knees.  Tweety told his friends Big Bird and the Angry Birds crew about one particularly good spot in general.

The Bird Formally Known as a Symbol had left his friends back at the gathering spot, wandering about and debating what to do. "Do I believe Tweety?" he thought, ambling ever further from his friends. Having arrived at the posted coordinates, inspiration struck, and he finally he decided to set out and follow Tweety's directions.  He started noshing on the delectable worms in a southerly direction.  He would occasionally find other worms along the path, but they were often narrow and green, a sign that they were vegan worms, stringy and tough.  He quickly found himself with a choice.  There was a fork in the road.  He recalls Tweety telling stories of the swanky high life, living with Granny, shooing away Sylvester.  But that wasn't his style.  He was more of a "I've got friends in low places" kind of bird.  Besides, the worms are better there, so along the low road to the left he went.

As he was dining he came across some other things of mild interest.  A former raging river, cleverly disguised now as a 3 feet wide empty creek bed.  A path along a sharp left as the worm went right.  Though he could hear cows bellowing in the distance, he again avoided the temptation to go green.  And after awhile he came to a bridge - the Bridge of Intrigue!  He paused at this point in the meal, sat on the bridge and digested for a moment, but then decided to keep eating.  So eat he did...in a generally southwesterly direction.  He had been eating for another tenth of a mile or so (as the crow flies of course, your distance may vary) as the trail began to take a sharp left down toward the water he was suddenly startled.

A GHOST!!!!  Freaked out, our friend took off through the woods directly away from the tree (facing southeast)  He ducked under limbs, jumped over rocks, and ran for over 200 bird hops (a bird hop is a foot, you didn't know that?)  Not knowing if the ghost was on his tail, he quickly ducked into the welcoming and protecting arms of a three-armed tree.  He was a few feet off the ground, away from the creepy crawlies, and he could peek his head up to see if the ghost was chasing him.  He's still there, hiding, and waiting for you to come and tell him the coast is clear.  The map below is an approximation of his journey.  Can you check on him, and make sure he's ok?

This is our first letterbox.  We certainly welcome feedback, especially on how to make the directions clearer, and the whole adventure more kid-friendly.  Congrats to Serrabou and Dukester 1 for FTF!  smiley
