Geocache Description:

Wetherden is one of those villages that many people pass through every day, but I imagine that like me most have never thought to stop and explore.This is a very busy Church if the number of visits I had to make before finally getting a moment alone to place the cache are anything to go by - don't say I didn't warn you!

Simon Knott on his Suffolk Churches website describes St Mary's in Wetherden as "a box of delights, and not too far off the beaten track" and the many visits I've made over the last few months have certainly been delightful. This is a spectacular church, built in the middle of the 15th century, with a tower built a century earlier. A fine example of a Tontagon which I know will please some of our local cachers ;-) and if the Church is open when you visit the medieval bench ends are well worth going inside to see. There are two footpaths that cross in the middle of the churchyard, one very straightforward leading from one road to another and the other a bit more of an adventure. I recommend taking some time to explore both these paths as they take you to parts of the churchyard that would otherwise be missed. The vast grounds are very well maintained, and therein lies the reason for the D level I've chosen! Seldom did I arrive and not find someone working away. You really will have to pick your moment at this one. If you're lucky you should be able to park right next to this cache. You are looking for a camouflaged bison in that much hated by cachers evergreen climbing plant....
