Geocache Description:

This is a micro cache near to Burn Halt, one of the stations on the now closed Exe Valley Railway. You do not need to access the platforms to locate this cache, it can be retrieved from the footpath that runs close to the old station site.

The Exe Valley Railway was opened in 1884 and ran for just over 19 miles between Stoke Canon and Morebath Junction. The GWR built it to connect the Bristol & Exeter Railway to the Devon and Somerset Railway (that once connected Taunton and Barnstaple)

There were four passenger services per day at the peak of the line's popularity but like many other rural rail lines traffic dwindled after nationalisation in 1948 and the line was closed in 1963.

This cache is part of the SideTracked series that places caches near to current and former railway stations. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website.

The cache is a 35mm film pot hidden at ground level. Please ensure the lid is securely attached and the cache is not visible when you rehide the cache.
