DESCRIPTION
In grade 3 I did a school project on the bridges around Eltham. So I have used this research to start a series of caches in these locations.
This small bridge along the Diamond Creek Trail crosses over Diamond Creek between the Eltham Rugby club and the Eltham Panthers Junior Football ground. There is also a disused BMX track nearby
Depending on the water flow it looks like a small creek, and sometimes barely flows. But after nearby rain the water rises and flows quickly, and then returns to a trickle within a day or 2
In November 2004 the river rose rapidly and flooded the area. Both sports grounds were unerwater and some intrepid adventurers used the grounds as a lake for their kayaks.
The photo is the aftermath of this flood and was taken a day or 2 after. It destroyed a lot of footbridges along the creek. Over the next few months the council repaired a number of the bridges to only have them damaged in February 2005. This is one of the few remaining in Eltham that was repaired. Most have been replaced by much higher steel bridges.
CACHE
The cache has been changed to a 500 ml screwtop container after the original Sistema Container got washed away in late 2017. That container didn't last long so the third was an Eclipse tin. New red graffiti will be the reason that didn't last a few weeks. Now on the fourth container, a slim magnetic eclipse tin.
SO NOW YOU HAVE TO REACH INSIDE. The original hide location is almost visible in the photo, apart from the debris. New location is on the OTHER side of the bridge. Difficulty has also been increased by 0.5
