Geo Boo Gang Series: Caesar and Cornelius Taylor Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoElmo6000: Sad news, the Geo Boo Gang has decided to disband their organization. They will, however, still remain friends!

This was a fun series to create. It was inspired by the Gates of Central Park series in New York, which is amazing puzzle series. It was also my first dabbling into graphic art; creating the photos of the Goo Boo Gang at famous cache sites as part of the puzzle background was a ton of fun. My goal was to add life to a puzzle series by putting an individual story into each writeup with a common overall story tying the series together.

Unfortunately the series as a whole turned out to be a little too tough and most people only found a couple of the caches. Oh well.

This particular puzzle was taken from the Cheryl's birthday puzzle that was made popular a little before I created this cache; Googling the hint would take you to that puzzle and how to solve it.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to solve this puzzle and find this cache!

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the given coordinates. Or is it? Solve the puzzle below for the coordinates of the cache.

The Geo Boo Gang is a social group made up of geocachers from northeastern New Jersey and the Lower Hudson Valley of New York. The Geo Boo Gang holds regular events, including monthly ice cream socials and quarterly dinners. They race each other for First to Finds and often run into each other on local trails.

The Geo Boo Gang:

Bottom l-r: Cornelius Taylor, Felicia Furrball, Jack Russell, Bo Woolensworth, Caesar Taylor

It was during one of their ice cream socials that the following conversation occurred:

Olga: ... and that's how I developed a love for cooking.
Bo: Wait, I love to cook too. How did I never know this about you?
Cody: Well, all we usually talk about is geocaching. I don't think I really know much about any of you, besides the fact that you enjoy finding Tupperware in the woods using a super-expensive satellite system!
Felicia: Hey, that gives me an idea! Why don't we create a puzzle series together; each of us would create a puzzle based on something that interests him or her? Olga or Bo could use cooking if they wanted to, for example, since they both love cooking. And then together we can create a final, bonus puzzle, based on all our individual puzzles. This will be a fun way to get to know each other better.
Cornelius: Caesar and I are brothers. Can we put together a puzzle as a team?
Balto: Jack and I hang out all the time. Can we create a puzzle together too?
Felicia: That sounds great guys! So we'll have six puzzles, which works out perfectly. Let's coordinate the bonus puzzle, and then we'll go create our individual puzzles on our own.

And that's how the Geo Boo Gang puzzle series was born.

Caesar and Cornelius Taylor

Caesar and Cornelius Taylor are brothers who share a common interest in logic and logic puzzles. They always work on the newspaper's daily Sudoku, and have magazines devoted to nonograms. And together, they are the masters of the logic puzzle grid.

This morning, Caesar and Cornelius are celebrating their birthdays with their parents, Caleb and Cheryl. Caesar and Cornelius aren't twins - Caesar is two years older - but their birthdays, July 24th and July 26th, respectively, are so close that they always share a birthday party. This year's party is later than usual - July 31st! - because Caleb returned late last night from his long business trip to Singapore. For this birthday, Caleb and Cheryl have prepared a fun surprise for the boys.

"Happy Birthday kids!" said Caleb.

"Yay! Dad's home!" shouted Cornelius and Caesar in unison.

"Guess what? We hid a geocache for the two of you, and put together a fun puzzle for you to solve to find the cache. Dad came up with the concept while he was away, and couldn't wait to get home so he and I could develop the puzzle for you. Take a look at this sheet: the final coordinates are one of the ten listed here," said Cheryl, handing the coordinate list to the boys.

The list of coordinates

"What clues do you have for us?" asked the boys.

Cheryl then whispered the correct latitude to Cornelius and the correct longitude to Caesar.

"Now don't tell each other what you were told! If think about this logically, boys, you'll be able to figure out together which coordinates are the cache coordinates," said Caleb.

"But couldn't we just search at each of the ten coordinates on the list until we find it?" asked Caesar.

"Of course," said Cheryl. "But wouldn't it be more rewarding to actually solve the puzzle?"

"Yes!" shouted the boys.

Caesar and Cornelius examining the coordinate list

The boys spent some time looking through and manipulating the list. They tried one approach after another, but made no progress. Finally, after exhausting every method they could think of, Caesar shook his head and said to Cornelius, "I don't know what the coordinates are! But I do know this: you don't know what they are either!"

Cornelius thought about that a little, then looked through the list again. After a couple minutes he said, "Aha! Thanks Caesar! At first I didn't know what the correct coordinates were, but now I do!"

Caesar gave his brother a questioning look, then took another look at the list. "Oh! Then I know where the cache is too!"

Caesar and Cornelius called their parents over. "It's this one, right?" asked the boys, pointing to their choice.

"Correct! You boys are such great puzzle solvers!" said Caleb and Cheryl.

"We did it! That was awesome! Mom, Dad, can we use this puzzle for our Geo Boo Gang puzzle series?" asked Caesar.

"Absolutely! I hope they enjoy it as much as you have!" replied Cheryl.

"Thanks Mom and Dad!" said Cornelius. "C'mon Caesar, let's go find this cache, then get this puzzle published!"
