Supermoon is a relatively new term that came into existence about 30 years ago. Before then, a supermoon was known simply as a near-perigee full moon, that is, a full moon when the moon is closest to Earth. The supermoon on 28 September 2015 will the super-est of supermoons in 2015... with the moon being only 221,754 miles from Earth. Not only that, but there will also be a full lunar eclipse... a blood moon where the moon takes on a dark red hue.
