Game On! #1: Playing the Game of Thrones Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

teamajk: The in-theme location has been closed for quite a while now, and it appears the cache's host has now been removed. Looks like it's "game over" for this one. Thanks to all who solved and visited.

Geocache Description:

Winter is coming. There's no doubt about it. So I decided if I'm going to place any more caches before the snow flies, I should get going. There is nothing hidden at the posted coordinates. You will be seeking a magnetic nano. Please use appropriate stealth and rehide the container exactly as you found it. Take care not to lose the O-ring which guards against moisture in the container. Solve the puzzle below to determine where the cache is located. You may assume the degrees portion of the puzzle is 42 for North and 76 for West.

My husband and I do not have similar tastes in books or television shows, but we have both read and watched The Game of Thrones in its entirety (so far). We both are hooked and are eagerly awaiting the publication of the next installment. If you're unfamiliar with the series, I won't spoil it for you, but what it boils down to is, the game of thrones is actually a game of life. According to one character: "When you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die." The story is very complex, and it seems hardly any character is safe. Very little is black and white in this universe, and it's hard to predict which way the story might go. Some characters unexpectedly die while others manage to live, and some even die and come back to life (after a fashion, at least). If you can solve this puzzle, you'll know not only where this cache is located, but which of these two houses I'm rooting for to survive the Game of Thrones - the Starks of the North, whose sigil is the direwolf, or the Lannisters of Westeros, whose sigil is the lion.

This is the first in a series of caches inspired by The Game of Thrones. Stay tuned!

Many thanks to The North Star (CA) for beta-testing.

About this series: The “Game On!” series was inspired by some urban puzzle caching I did in the San Francisco Bay area last summer. I loved how the CO’s were able to tuck in a number of caches in a small area, and how they created puzzles built around fun themes that tied in to the cache locations in surprising ways. No familiarity (or research) about The Game of Thrones will be required. The puzzles will vary in style and difficulty, and none of the caches will be lamp-skirt hides. Geocheckers will be provided for all of the puzzles; you should check your answer to receive information about the location, a hide hint, and a valuable piece of information for the final puzzle in the series. I will be willing to provide help with each puzzle after the cache has been found.
