The church dates back to 1926, when the Wesleyan Methodist Connexion secured a site (formerly part of Hormanshire Farm) in South Chingford. During 1929 discussions took place with the United Methodist, Primitive Methodist and V'esleyan Methodist Churches, as a result of which the South Chingford Church became the focus of the union scheme. The three churches were joined nationally by Act of Parliament in 1929.
