Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in the Riserva Naturale Bosco della Ficuzza.
This is a throne carved on sandstone that King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon used for hunting. He sat here while the hunters pushed the animals towards him. Recent archaeological researches show that the "pulpit of the King" has ancient origins. It was an altar where rites to the sun and fertility were held during the solstices. Two sandstone rocky outcrops are opposed at a distance of 20 meters. You can see a scale sculpted on the rock leading to a stage or " podium " with flat base, surrounded by seats with backrest, all carved into the rock. There are other smaller structures, but not for this less interesting, such as small shaped cavity, (niches and " shells "), cuts, bumps, drilling and inscriptions not well preserved.

Questa cache si trova nella Riserva Naturale Bosco della Ficuzza.
È un trono scolpito sulla roccia arenaria che il re Ferdinando IV di Borbone usava per cacciare stando seduto mentre i battitori spingevano le prede verso di lui. Recenti ricerche archeologiche dimostrano che il "pulpito del re" ha origini antichissime. Era infatti un altare ove si svolgevano riti legati al sole e alla fecondità in occasione dei solstizi. I due speroni rocciosi di arenaria sono contrapposti e distano 20 metri l'uno dall'altro. Si può vedere una scala scolpita su roccia che conduce ad una sorta di palco o “podio” su base piana, cinto da sedili con spalliera, sempre scolpiti in viva roccia. A questi elementi fanno da contorno una serie di strutture minori, ma non per questo meno interessanti, come piccole cavità spesso sagomate, presenti sia in superfici verticali che orizzontali (nicchie e “coppelle”), incisioni, protuberanze, perforazioni e resti di iscrizioni mal conservati.
