Geocache Description:

A Village Sign at Burton Overy in Leicestershire. You are looking for a magnetic bison.

In ancient writings, the village was referred to as Burtone, Burton Novrey, and later Burton Overy. It is seated in a valley on the brook, which rises in the lordship of Frisby, near Gaulby. It is bounded on the west by Great Glen, on the north by Little Stretton and Norton, on the east by Carlton and Ilston and on the south by Kibworth and a small part of Wistow. It is nearly equidistant from Leicester and Harborough – about 9 miles from each, and in the ecclesiastical division of the county, which is within the deanery of Gartree. Burton Overy has a long history, and is well documented back to the reign of Edward the Confessor.

We have been unable to find out anything about the Village Sign ie date placed and significance.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
