SLO: Prečna pri Novem mestu je v pisnih virih prvikrat navedena okrog leta 1180, leta 1365 pa tudi reka Prečna, danes bolj znana kot Temenica.
Župnijska cerkev v Prečni, ki stoji na rahli vzpetini nad lokalno cesto Novo mesto – Straža, je bila pozidana po načrtih arhitekta Josipa Vancaša iz Sarajeva. Priprave na njeno gradnjo so se začele leta 1894, ko je župnik Anton Šmidovnik ljudem oznanil, da bodo postavili novo cerkev, posvečeno sv. Antonu Padovanskemu.
Novo cerkev je 13. junija 1910 posvetil ljubljanski škof Anton Bonaventura Jeglič, teden dni kasneje pa je bilo pri sv. Antonu prvo farno žegnanje. Cerkev sv. Antona Padovanskega v Prečni je bila ena prvih velikih cerkvenih arhitektur, pozidanih v prvi četrtini 20. stoletja na Dolenjskem, ki so nadomestile starejše srednjeveške stavbe. Njena dolžina je 40 in širina 12 metrov, ladja je visoka 13,4 metra, prezbiterij 11,7 in zvonik 54 metrov. Za zidavo naj bi po izračunu arhitekta porabili 1500 kubičnih metrov kamenja, 465.000 kosov opeke, 400 kubičnih metrov žganega apna, 1140 kubičnih metrov peska in 750 metercentnih kosov cementa portland.
