Geocache Description:

The Church on Fairford Leys is an ecumenical church and aims to provide a focus for the community, a place to come together to celebrate the joys of life and commiserate in times of sorrow.  To welcome ALL Christians to worship and to learn what it means to be a Christian in today’s world.

Fairford Leys is an urban village situated just outside the south western boundary of Aylesbury town, in Buckinghamshire. Planning for the village began in the 1980’s and 90’s and the first residents moved into their new homes in 1998. As part of this new development the town centre churches were invited by the Ernest Cook Trust to develop a project to create a new church in the heart of the community. The Church of England, the Roman Catholic, the United Reformed and the Methodist Churches then began the process of planning what was to become the first ecumenical (i.e. more than one denomination) church to be built in Aylesbury. An architect was appointed, Maguires of Thame, who began to design the church, together with the Fairford Leys Community Centre. Construction began in 2001 and the church opened for services in March 2003.

The village community has grown not just in the number of houses and people since then but also with a sense of community spirit. The church, wanting to continue to provide a focus for the community and a building that is versatile to meet these needs, has recently undergone some alterations. With many people from the community visiting the church for various events and meetings as well as the Sunday services it seemed only right to place a cache here to welcome others from outside the community as well.

You are looking for a concealed nano cache so will need to bring a pen. While the cache is not difficult to find, you need to beware of muggles, especially around school drop off and pick up. Many families pass the church on the way to drop children off at the local school and nursery as well as to use the community centre for its many classes.
