The Church
Braddock Church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and is a small rural church serving a scattered community of farms and small homesteads as well as being the nearest church to the Boconnoc Estate.
Much of the church is Norman in origin but the tower and an aisle were added in the 15th Century.
There are some examples of fine wood carving in the rood screen, bench end, the wagon roofs and the Elizabethan pulpit.
In October 1845 the four bells, which had not been rung for many years, were removed and sent to the famous Whitechapel Foundry in London to be melted down and re-cast as five bells. the first peal of the new bells took place at easter 1846 - a remarkably short turn round considering the bells weighed 0ver 1 ton and had to be transported to and from London.
In 1643 a major battle of the English Civil War took place on the nearby Braddock Downs when a force of Royalist troops and cavalry defeated and routed a large force of Parliamentarians and secured Cornwall for the King. The actual site of the battle is not clear - possibly under arable land and possibly on part of the Boconnoc Estate parkland.
Because of its isolated location, the Church is often locked.
