I spent several thousand hours of my childhood fishing, building rafts and exploring Winton Lake in the 1970s. On a number of occasions in the winter I rode my bike on the ice to Greenhills High school. We also used to go sledding down the back side of the dam until the rangers chased us off.
I was arrested several times for having the audacity to fish from the shoreline and going rafting on the lake.
When we heard a motor boat we would call out "Ranger Danger!".
Hopefully times have changed.
