Geocache Description:

As mentioned on episode 49 of the UK Geocaching Podcast!

A multi cache placed at the North Stoneham War Shrine.

Having been restored in 2011 after falling into dereliction, this shrine is now regularly open to the public to view. The cache itself is placed well away from the shrine and is a 35mm film container, you will need to bring your own pen and please replace as found. Please note the signs at the entrances regarding dogs and grazing cattle.

War Memorial cache #92 We shall remember them ~ North Stoneham

There are literally thousands of War memorials around the country. WW1 Memorials were usually raised through public subscription to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. 2014 was the centenary of the start of the First World War, so it was about time there was a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called, “Lest we forget” and another we have learned about called “Poppies on Parade”. We will gladly add any of these to the War Memorial Series, just ask for a number. The name of this series We Shall remember them, was chosen from the very moving poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. It is well worth searching out and reading.”

Use the given coordinates to bring you to the shrine, where there will be four years given on the sign outside. The second year on the sign gives you ABCD. Use these values to work out the coordinates of the cache, which is located at:

N50 57.(A+D) (C) (B) W001 22.(A+C+D) (A-C) (A)

Checksum of the full cache coordinates is 44.

The cache is located a short walk from the shrine, good boots/wellies are strongly advised if it has been raining recently. This path is popular with dog walkers, so please use stealth as necessary when making the find. Please come and enjoy this area before the developers move in to build 1,100 homes on it next year. We're aware that the final hide is likely to be affected by this development, as are several other caches in the area, but for now please come and enjoy what's left of Eastleigh's green spaces.
