Opened in 1846, the Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne are internationally renowned gardens located near the centre of Melbourne, on the south bank of the Yarra River. There are 38 hectares of landscaped gardens consisting of a mix of native and exotic vegetation including over 10,000 individual species.relaxing area

Attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually, the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is a treasured part of Melbourne's cultural life. With its stunning vistas, tranquil lakes and diverse plant collections, the Gardens are a place of continual discovery and delight. The Botanic Gardens Melbourne is home to amazing and diverse plant collections such as camellias, rainforest flora, succulents and cacti, roses, Californian species, herbs, perennials, cycads and plants from Southern China. Guilfoyle's Volcano in the Gardens offers visitors a fabulous precinct to explore. The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne also provide a natural sanctuary for native wildlife such as the black swans, eels, bell birds, cockatoos and kookaburras. A popular attraction is The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden. The Children's Garden has everything that children could want to help them discover the natural world: plant tunnels that they can crawl through, rocks that they can climb and a bamboo forest in which they can hide. The Children's Garden is usually closed on Monday and Tuesday and for 8 weeks over winter starting 13th July. Otherwise the rest of the gardens are open from 7:30am. childrens garden . This Geocache has been sited with the kind permission of Royal Botanical Gardens of Melbourne management, the container can be found in a typical geocache location. At no time do you have to leave the path to locate it. In fact it is an offence to interfere with the gardens, so just stay on the walkway and you will be fine.
