Last summer six local geocachers decided to go on a camping trip together, to Glasgow. Unable to resist the temptation of a terrain 5 geocache they decided on the first full day of their trip to pack the climbing rope and the harnesses, and to head out to a local forest and climb a tree together. Unfortunately it didn't exactly go to plan. The following is an account of what happened to each cacher. The six cachers or caching groups on the trip were Bash&Dodge, Smokeypugs, Alibags, Team Hippo, Liberal Giraffe and Benjymo.
The trouble started when someone decided that they needed to get a sheep to the top of the tree. Ranger and Smokey were dispatched to round up a willing participant from the flock in a nearby field, and then Mr Smokeypugs was sent into the field to retrieve the sheep. Unfortunately Smokey got too over excited at the sight of his owner and promptly dashed out from behind the bemused looking sheep, startling it into a bolt knocking Mr Smokeypugs clean off his feet. When Mrs Smokeypugs arrived at her husband's side he opened his eyes in response to her voice and uttered several inappropriate words.
One sheep duly rounded up Benjymo lifted it over his shoulder and proceeded to climb the tree. Unfortunately as he was nearing the top the sheep, who was afraid of heights, started wriggling about vigorously. Trying to negotiate an awkward branch, a rope and an increasingly irate ovine, Benjymo twisted and accidentally hit his head. For several minutes afterwards he appeared to be confused and disoriented.
Alibags had started climbing after Benjymo and was taken out by a rapidly descending sheep, that had just been dropped from above. The noises she made were incomprehensible as she plummeted to the floor.
Dodge of Bash&Dodge, who was at the base of the tree about to climb, took the full force of a falling northerner, and her ukulele, closely followed by a sheep that was wondering what on earth was going on. When Bash went to check on Dodge he made no movement, made no sound and didn't open his eyes.
Team Hippo, conversing normally nearby, was the one who rang for an ambulance. As he took the lead to make sure everyone was OK Liberal Giraffe happily obeyed his commands.
And if you're wondering why they were trying to get a sheep to the top of a tree the answer's simple: it was a field puzzle!
All you need to do is to assign a number to each caching name, and then calculate the coords using the following formula:
