Geocache Description:


Many experts in family history will be familiar with the Hardwicke Marriage Act. Named after Lord Hardwicke, rather than after any of the multiple places of the same name, the Act was an attempt to prevent the extent to which people were entering into clandestine marriages. It came into force in 1754, and introduced a string of measures including either the bride or groom needing to be resident in the parish where the marriage was due to take place, the reading of banns in church if a licence could not be purchased, and the requirement to have witnesses to the marriage, among others.

On a personal note many of my ancestors came from this village, dating back to the 15th century. Below is a transcript of marriages in the local parish register from before 1754. You need to use it to find the coords of the final cache:
