A small cache with parking at GZ. Located on the junction between London Road and Two Waters Road. The 'Two Waters' refers to the two bodies of water which this cache overlooks. This water would have once provided the main driving force to the nearby paper mill. This paper mill was the first mecahncal paper mill in the world, and has revoloutionalised the way we produce paper.
When approaching the cache, look out for road names that reference the areas past. 'Frogmore Road' and 'Mill Way' are a couple to keep an eye out for. Fourdrinier way, which refers to the process used to manufacture the paper at the mill (the Fourdrinier Process) is also a link to the areas importance in years gone by.
The image shows the fourdrinier machine situated at the paper mill museum.
This image shows the original machine used at the mill. The picture shows the dry end of the mill, where much of the water has been driven out, leaving a substance that closley resembles the finished product.
An overview of the entire process is shown below.
As the process proceeds, moisture is driven out of the paper. The calandar section provides the finish to the paper, be it matte, satin or gloss. This can then further be enhanced with varnishes.
