IMPORTANT - Dogs will need to be kept on a lead the majority of the way round. There are some boggy/muddy sections and several stiles to cross - plus a couple of small streams which may cause problems if there has been significant rainfall.
Before setting off you will notice Manaton's village green surrounded by a few very pretty cottages, some of which are thatched. The white building at the top of the green used to be a pub called The Half Moon - unfortunately it is now a private residence so if you need refreshment afterwards you will have to head further down the road! You could also investigate the lovely church but this could be done on the return journey which passes through the churchyard. You can also take the opportunity to do rosekate's church micro here if you haven't already done it. (GC5ARH8)
From the parking area you cross the road and follow the small lane signposted for Leighon with an 'unsuitable for wide vehicles' sign and head down hill. As you go down you can see the hills to the right which you are heading for.
Please be aware that the weather conditions on Dartmoor can change suddenly.
