We’ve teamed up with Upper Narrows Retreat for a fantastic summer geocaching event! Come out for a day of caching in the beautiful area around Narrows Lock, enjoy a BBQ lunch, and attend fun talks created to enhance your geocaching experiences!
When- Saturday, June 27th, 2015, 10:00am to 4:00pm
Where- Upper Narrows Retreat, 1346 Narrows Lock Rd, Newboro, ON.
Giving us the use of the property surrounding their main building, as well as the many acres of land nearby, the Retreat has graciously agreed to host our event so cachers can enjoy the outdoor possibilities and caching opportunities of the surrounding area. Come join us at this beautiful location alongside the Upper Rideau Lake for a fun day of geocaching!
Are you new to geocaching? Do you have friends who want to try it out but never have? Or are you just looking to up your geocaching game? The day’s events will begin at 10:00am with an intro to geocaching discussion; come join this informal presentation by a well-known local cacher to learn the basics of finding, placing, and enjoying geocaches!
Following this introductory event, the day will kick off with a meet and greet at the Retreat at 11:00am to prepare for an abundance of new caching opportunities in the surrounding area.
You are welcome to return to the Retreat at any time throughout the day to purchase a BBQ lunch (12 noon to 3:00pm), chat with other cachers, exchange stories and TBs, or enjoy other outdoor activities including kayaking and tennis.
As geocachers, we all love the outdoors, but how much do we really understand about the fantastic array of species we encounter along the way, what to watch out for, or what to do if something goes wrong? For those looking for a change of pace after a couple hours of caching, there will be a nature interpretation, safety, and survival course at the Retreat at 2:30pm, led by a trained and knowledgeable wilderness guide.
From 3:30 to 4:00pm the event will close... with prizes! A range of prizes will be given out for finding certain caches, most finds, etc. (more info on prizes and goals will be provided prior to the event), and just for attending; you could walk away with geocaching swag or even a free stay at Upper Narrows Retreat! But remember, you must be present to receive your prize!
Full Schedule:
10:00am- Intro to Geocaching
11:00am- Event officially begins with a meet and greet
11:30am- New local caches become active
12 noon - 3:00pm- BBQ is open
2:30pm- Wilderness interpretation and survival
3:30-4pm- Event closes with prize giveaways
