Orpington Methodist Church
Another in the ever expanding Church Micro Series, started by Sadexploration.
The first Methodist Church in Orpington, affectionately known as the "Tin Tabernacle", was built at the corner of Chislehurst Road and Goodmead Road. It was a second-hand corrugated iron building which was purchased for £30. It formally opened on 23rd March 1909 and remained in use until the need for a larger building emerged.
The present site was purchased for £900 and the new church building (now, the church hall to the right in the picture) was opened on 16th November 1933. The foundation stone for the current church took place on Saturday 25th October 1952, and the first service in the new building took place on Sunday 17th October 1953.
