Geocache Description:

Church Micro 7919 ...Stewartby

This cache has been placed to bring you to Stewartby United Church.

This cache is a magnetic nano. The cache only contains a log - you are a geocacher, you should have a writing implement! Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard and is NOT accessible from inside the churchyard. Please park sensibly and safely in the village. Recommended parking is outside the church.

The Stewart Family were a deeply religious family, and it was long a dream of Sir Malcolm that their village should have a church. Before the new village was built there was a small methodist chapel for the hamlet of Wootton Pillinge, however as the village grew meetings were held in the Memorial Hall and in 1943 a new minister was appointed, the Rev. William Taylor to serve the church and the Brickworks. The need for a church resulted in the opening of a temporary building in Park Crescent in 1950 ,until a larger church could be built. In 1995, a long wooden hut (the annex) was added to the church in which various clinics, parents and children groups, operatic society and the Gadsden Band could meet. In 1970 major alterations were made . Sir Malcolm saw the church as the centre of community life, both social and religious, bringing together all denominations. In 1981 a sharing agreement was signed between Anglican, Methodist, United Reformed and Roman Catholic Churches whereby "Churches Together" services would be held.

To this day the temporary church remains as the meeting place for the Stewartby congregation though plans are now in progress to enlarge and renew the existing church.

When I visited the church to place the micro, I became distracted by the bricks (as you would do in Stewartby!). To find the location of the final cache, you will need to visit the published coordinates and be similarly distracted.

On the left side of the church building are 6 arched windows. Each of these have a segmental arch of BR bricks. Further to the left is a wrought iron gate. On the left of it, there are IC bricks sticking out to make a pattern (I believe there are also the same number on the right hand side). Finally, the main door has several brick arches around it. Excluding the part bricks at the base, there are KS bricks in the inner arch.

Using BRICKS, the final cache can be found at North 52° 04. BK(I+R) West 000° 30.(C+C)S(K-B)
For those who struggle with counting, if correct, the sum of BRICKS is 18.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
