HR:

The twentieth century was harsh to the town; many buildings erected through history disappeared, facade decorations from many buildings too, two WWI and WWII and one Homeland war have also contributed to the devastation; that all has changed the look of the city. This walk takes you through some of the locations where not so long ago were the Pakrac sights, and now they're gone.

Stage 1: Power station Munjara - N 45° 26.120 E 017° 11.501
The first power station in Pakrac popularly called Munjara or Letrika was built in 1906th and this city is among the first cities in Croatia in general which is wired for electricity. Residents looked with great distrust at the introduction of electric lighting and were slowly accepting it in their own homes. One chronicler says that during the 1906th there was abundant rain and lightning, and among the citizenry was widespread belief that the cause was just newly introduced electricity. In municipal committee some were of the opinion that the streets do not even need to be illuminated because everyone who is honest should be home by 8:00PM. Pakrac power station had a DC generator of 68 kw and produced enough electricity to illuminate the center of the city and the hospital until the 1931st when it stopped working. However, station continues to work, but now as a motor mill. Lately it was devastated and was demolished in 2011.
