Geocache Description:

12 noon to 12.30pm A quick, fun Flashmob on a Roman-related theme.

Assemble at 12 noon in front of the large "Forum" sign in the middle of the shops. If you really want to get into the spirit of the theme come in a toga! Otherwise all you need to do is bring an A3 sized sign or placard stating, in just a few words, what the Romans ever did for us! If you want inspiration just watch this clip.

After few minutes of banter and exchange of Roman jokes (bonus points for any Latin jokes) we'll take a group photo with signs held aloft and then retire to a nearby coffee shop.

The Romans conquered this part of Britain in AD 48 and shortly afterwards built a legionary fortress high on a hill overlooking the natural lake formed by the widening of the River Witham (which we now know as the Brayford Pool) and at the northern end of the Fosse Way Roman road (A46). The Celtic name Lindon was subsequently Latinised to Lindum and given the title Colonia when it was converted into a settlement for army veterans. This shopping precinct is not in Lincoln, does not mark the site of any significant Roman archaeology but is named "The Forum" as a nod to the area's history and in a vague attempt to make the place sound classy. Despite this failure, it's good enough for me and is the site for today's WWFM event.

WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs – A fun and friendly way to promote geocaching around the world. Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events spanning the globe, gathering at the same time. Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea in 2007 after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
