Stende rakstu avotos pirmoreiz minēta 1288. gadā kā Teidāna Egles (Talsu Tīdemaņa) lēnis.No 1556. gada līdz agrārajai reformai  piederējusi fon der Brigenu (von der Brüggen) dzimtai. 1937. gadā Stendesmuiža pārdēvēta par Dižstendi.
